This UNESCO project aims to unite the efforts of city authorities around the world in order to normalize interethnic and interconfessional relations in the cities. The project brings together the regional coalitions of cities that have adopted “ten items action plans” as their charters, covering all areas of activity in an urban environment (education, employment, housing, etc.). The European Coalition of Cities against Racism (ECCAR) is working the most actively against racism. It is composed of more than a hundred cities of Europe, including two Russian ones - St. Petersburg and Derbent.
Significance for Russia:
• Participation of Russian cities in this project will stimulate the municipal authorities in our country to take effective measures to combat ethnic intolerance and discrimination, in collaboration with civil society. For their part, Russian cities will have the opportunity to actively participate in forming the policies of these independent associations, partners search, developing mechanisms for promoting and monitoring.
