Landscapes of Dauria

Cultural criteria: ix, x
Year of inclusion in the List of World Heritage: 2017

This object, located within the territories of Mongolia and the Russian Federation, is a unique example of the ecosystem of Daurian steppes, which spread from eastern Mongolia through Russian Siberia to the northeastern border of China. The cyclical climate with interchanging distinctive wet and dry periods contributed to the emergence of a large variety of natural species and ecosystems that are of a global importance. The various types of local steppes — wet meadows, forest and lake areas — are the habitats of such rare fauna species as the Daurian crane and bustard, as well as millions of rare and vulnerable migratory birds, threatened with extinction. The park is also an important site on the migratory path of the bird called the Mongolian dresden.
